ABOUT

Who I am

I am Jim, a retired insurance executive, underwriter and insurance agency owner living in Virginia with my wife of 50 years. Through the working life years I was quite content focusing on those endeavors, but did find some time to travel and to boat on small inland lakes and then on Lake Michigan. As retirement became a reality, my interests blossomed and included boating in the Netherlands, traveling in Europe, designing and cultivating a garden, chasing grand kids, writing for myself and for others and assessing politics. What you will read in this blog is some of all of that.  The Netherlands boating and travel adventures have their own website http:www.labonneaventureonline.com. (Not Yet Operational). Otherwise, what you will find in the blog is Periodically Random, which may be thought provoking, but may be with a grain of humor.

Why I do this

There must be some inflated ego involved in wanting to share ones thoughts with others and thinking someone might be interested. But as I thought about it, what legacy, if any, would I leave, if I did not share. Would my family, friends, or anybody remember or really understand some of  my views? Would they care who I was? When you come right down to it, without writing few would know or have a chance to care who I was or what I thought. The truth is I enjoy writing and organizing my thoughts.  I have shared several Letters to the Editor in various papers, am working on a memoir of our Dutch cruising days and have been encouraged by some of the comments I have received. Yep, it is kind of cathartic for me and perhaps a slightly warped dissertation on our times. So if you dare, delve in here.

What I can do for you

Your reading here might be a bit entertaining, but that could depend on your point of view. If nothing else, I hope some of my scratches make you think, so  you will come to your own conclusions and maybe cause grin from time to time.
